Copy posetool.dlu into max\plugins folder.

Copy icon files into max\ui\icons folder.

Create a Character

Select the objects you want, then click new. You can create PoseTool Character from any object that can be transformated with position / rotation / scale. You can make poses with lights, helpers, shapes or particles. PoseTool Character can be consist of even one single sphere. If you use it for character animation , a character's tail or left hand or any other part can be separate PoseTool Character.

Create an Object Set

Select objects that are part of the Character or from other set. With RMB in tree area open the options menu and click on New Object Set.

You can see object set structure from the file Rob.max

Work with Alternative Object Set

Generally, there is two systems of creating character structure in MAX. I'll describe the steps that you have to take to create a good working alternative set.
In any of the two cases is necessary to create the mirrorable parts of the character ( hands , legs, tentacles, wings ) not just with Clone but with Mirror !

Step 1
It's very important to place a dummy or another object in the beginning of Leg or Hand's chain.

Select Leg and Hand chains togeter with their dummies and then make a mirror copies.

Select all object of the body and create new PoseTool Character

Step 4
Select one of the legs ,but DON'T SELECT THE DUMMY or another object that's on the top of the leg's chain !!! After that with RMB over the main character choose New Object Set.
Step 5
Click on created Object Set , then click on the Base / Alternative icon in pose options area. You'll be asked to define an alternative object for all of the objects in this Object Set. After do this , the work is done! Now all you need is to create poses and additional object sets only for one of the legs and use them with both !It's the same with hands , wings or another groups of mirror objects.

In this case almost everything is the same, but much easier. You don't have to create any dummies. To create Object Set for the hand, just select the entire hand , click on New Object Set and that's it. Repeat the procedure with alternative objects, an that's all. It's the same with the legs and so on.

Understand pose options
absolute/relative and limted/unlimited mode

Maybe they're most important features of PoseTool.
Basically :
absolute/relative
absolute mode executes poses just like you created them, relative mode adds the pose to current transformation.

limited/unlimited
You can choose between limited range 0-100% of the original pose and the unlimited range (over 100%) which includes also negative values

Note: Because of the importance , I recommend you to look closely the difference between the modes in the scene Rob.max, especially the poses of the main character.
